ChirpyChoppers.com was created in 2005 when we realised that so many people around the world were so terrified of having dental work done that they were avoiding even simple checkups at all costs!
Without good dental care, and prompt attention to problems with teeth and gums, a series of devastating health problems can follow.
These range from something as minor as embarrassment or an inability to be comfortable or confident socially, right through to a compromised heart, with germs from the mouth making their way through the blood supply and targetting the heart itself.
Can you see why we believed this to be such a crucial aspect of health that we needed to take action?
My Own Story I can genuinely laugh about this now, but when I was a small child it was not a laughing matter, but absolutely the stuff that nightmares are made of.
My dear old dad, a talented cabinetry maker and builder, used to fancy himself a bit of a dentist, and rather than leave a loose tooth to fall out of its own accord, he used to prop us up on the dining table and extract the wobbler with nail pliers!
As you can imagine, and as has happened with so many people the world over, I developed a massive phobia of anything vaguely resembling dental work!
As an adult I became a psychotherapist and a clinical researcher studying and developing more effective methods to help people with problems, including phobias, and I was lucky enough to be part of the team which developed NeuroStim, an amazing technique which is capable of wiping out all kinds of phobias very, very quickly.
As a result I'm happy to say that dental visits don't trouble me at all, and I tend to be quite relaxed. Of course it's crucial to ensure you have a good dentist, because unfortunately there are plenty of incompetent ones, but when you have no basic fear, and you know you can trust your dental professional, life is a whole lot easier.
And it's a good feeling to be able to smile and feel proud of your grin :-)
So dig in and have a look around to see what might be useful for you here, from the amazing anti-plaque toothpaste, to the dental phobia ebook, to the online support and the registry of good and bad dentists.
If you have any ideas on how we can make this site any better, I hope you'll use the contact form to let me know!
Wishing you happy smiles |
